K-2 Problem Solving: Creeper Plush (+, -)

Don’t you just LOVE it when you see all of your kiddos spread out all over the carpet, problem solving away & proving their solutions???

We do too!

“Real World Problems” + Math Stackers are a great way to offer your kids authentic interactions with math while developing deep math thinking as they physically experiment with the blocks to find a solution.

Below are 2 different ways your kiddos may use Math Stackers to find the solution.

Always encourage your kids to use what they know. They are the ones in charge, if they aren’t yet familiar with the part-part-total concept using larger values, they can use what they know about 1-1 correspondence and still get to the same solution.

Plus, if you are investigating this problem in a small group, each kid will be able to SEE the math thinking of their peers and learn from the strategy they used to solve!

Lay Math Stackers

horizontally to model

part-part-total!

Stack vertically and connect to 1-1 correspondence to really break the problem down for understanding.

Try it out and let us know about the math thinking your kiddos are developing! You can email us your stories at any time, just send to: support@mathstackers.com

(A Math Stackers Learning System was used to solve this problem.)
