My class is in love with Math Stackers! They were so excited to stack them and compare them to each other's stacks. It was a race to see who could get the biggest tower, then it was fun to find all the different numbers they could use to make the stacks equal!
I am waiting to use the information I have learned in my classroom this year.
The students are able to explain their thinking very well. They are learning their math facts quicker. They are learning how to add and subtract with the Math Stackers. They are learning how to pattern with the blocks.
The notches on the side to help them learn their math facts and number sentences. The size of them as well. The 2 is smaller than the 10.
I taught 4th grade last year and used Math Stackers with my students in small groups. My students were struggling to understand grade-level content, and I determined that they needed extra support in structuring numbers as a precursor to our lessons. Having the Math Stackers provide the students with a visual and tactile model of numbers helped them visualize the concepts and begin developing ideas of how they relate to each other in a conceptual way as opposed to just memorizing the steps in an algorithm or procedure. I began to see these ideas appear in our whole class lessons, and my students began to better understand these higher-level concepts while they were also catching up with earlier grade level content as well. I am very excited to see how Math Stackers continue to help my students, as I am looping with them to 5th grade. Overall, I think that it would be great to see Math Stackers in every elementary classroom. I am also Math Recovery trained, and I feel that anyone else with a background in this program would absolutely love Math Stackers as well.
